The central heart is a nod to that element of the Leather Pride flag because of the roots critter and pet role-play have in the Leather/BDSM communities. It shows a shoe and track together, representing the unity of all sorts of critters, regardless of whether they have hooves or paws. (The shoe and track are white to represent how innocent we are, too, right?
The layered background colors should at first glance resemble dirt, grass, sky, and clouds, suggesting the natural environment in which critters typically romp. But each color has a specific meaning behind it, too:
Orange: Taken from the original Pride flag, this color represents healing, since many in the critter community find headspace to be relaxing, restorative, or therapeutic.
Green: In the original Pride flag, this represents Nature, as critters embrace their natural tendencies and instincts.
Blue: Represents the boundless sky, just as critters’ personality expressions vary with each individual. Think “the sky’s the limit” in terms of identity expression.
White: Represents the purity and simplicity of the joy critters feel and bring to our human companions. (And also our innocence, right? Right.)
